I have an old Schwinn that was my dad’s and has been collecting dust. I wanna convert it to a fixie. But I am new to bikes and not sure what kind of group set I would need to convert it or what kind of wheels I need. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

looks to be a Schwinn Varsity.. it probably weighs like 800lbs right?
Looks like it has the FFS (front freewheel system). Would make an interesting single speed as is with the use of a fixed rear wheel.

Great color! Man, I wish I had my dad’s old road bike to tinker with. Post updates.
Looks good! Keep in mind that since it has 1 piece cranks, the sprocket will move a bit when shifting your weight around on the pedals, so something must be done to remedy that. I weld mine, but if that’s unavailable to you you could try jb welding a bent penny into the gap, or just filling it with jb weld liberally.
