Forgot to mention that its a 0.5cm gap
This obviously is a warranty situation, we don’t all ride around with gapped rims.
Pretty bad QC fail. It appears that the bond or press (probably a bond i.e. epoxy) that was holding the pin in failed at some point, and it sprung open because the pin was also holding it round.
That it sprung open at all could be seen as a secondary QC miss, as opposed to the rolling process having been done in a way where it’s closer to perfectly round without the pin pulling it together. But, it doesn’t really matter as long as the cut angles and length are correct.
Jobst Brandt [made the argument](https://yarchive.net/bike/rims.html) that bike rims don’t really need joined seams. You could likely build and ride this and never have it been an issue, unless the pin started rattling around or creaking. But it might do just that. I would send it back on that basis. If for some reason you couldn’t do that, last rim on earth or if this is a NOS treasure or something, probably better to snip it where you can and remove it completely before building at that point.
