I bought this bike second hand a few weeks ago. At first it was able to shift into the biggest gear, but after a week I couldn’t shift into the biggest gear in the front anymore. I thought the front derailleur just needed adjusting, so I tried to adjust it and turned the cable tensioner. All of a sudden I couldn’t shift up anymore. I turned the cable tensioner back and it worked again. I got spooked and decided to just go to a mechanic, who said that the bike needed a new cable. I handed him the bike and came back the next day and he said that he wasn’t able to fix it, that the shifter didn’t work and that I needed to buy a new shifter. I just bought a new cable and I thought that the shifter would work again after I removed the old cable, I thought the reason that it didn’t shift was just a tension issue. But the video shows the shifter without a cable routed, it’s still not shifting. I’m in my lowest gear so I don’t know if it can shift down. Any help or insight into what could be the problem is greatly appreciated!

As far as the video goes, it won’t shift because of the hood interfering with the mechanism.

Is there tension on the cable and is the cable seated in the shifter correctly. Mine did the same while on holiday and basically the cable head came out of the spot it’s supposed to sit in. The shifter will still shifter up like this but needs the spring tension from the derailure to run back down the gears.
