Hey all, I've been considering going for an Endurace for some time, and finally, it seems Canyon has piled up its stock.
Both bikes in the title are within my budget, but I‘m questioning if 700 Euros more for the SLX 8 is worth it in terms of added value.
The 7 come with Shimano‘s 105 electrical groupset, and the 8 with the Ultegra version.
As far as I understand, the frames are identical. According to Canyon's website, the weight difference between the bikes is only 200 grams in favor of the 8.
I plan for long-distance rides of up to 200 kilometers but don’t plan to race.
Long story short: Are there any convincing arguments to spend 700 Euros more to get an Ultegra and a 200 grams lighter bike?

No
It’s not just 105 vs ultegra, the slx 8 has a power meter as well. In which case i think its worth the upgrade if you’re going to be cycling seriously
Had the same dilemma a month ago (Aeroad, but the pro’s and cons are the same). To me the 8 always seemed the best value, the 7 makes some compromises if the budget is limited.
– Better hubs in the DT Swiss wheels
– Ultegra di2
– Way better front derailleur
– Better brake feel (servowave)
– Extra buttons on hoods for head unit control
– Weight saving
– Powermeter (even without power meter it would be worth it imo)
The wheels are different too. I know because I just opted for the 8 over the 7. I think the 7 also has a power meter though if you read through the specs. DT Swiss website will help you decide between the wheels. For me it was the light moss colour that finally made the decision. How silly am I?!?
No. And there is power meter in both.
If you’re on a tight budget (considering you’re buying a ~ 5k bike), go with CF SLX 7.
Otherwise, here’s the case for CF SLX 8 Di2:
* better resale value (whole bike / group / wheelset)
* one more (really nice!) color option (Light Moss)
* better groupset with:
* better shifting (Hyperglide+ cassette, which you could also upgrade on CF SLX7)
* better braking thanks to Servo Wave (it is better)
* 2 extra buttons on shifters
* better / faster front derailleur
* better (more modern) hubs in wheelset (more bling, probably not performance noteworthy)
* matte finish of the crankset goes a bit nicer with the rest of the mostly matte frame + components, although a glossy crankset is a very nice contrast and the finish on those new 105 cranks is really nice.
Ultimately, it’s a tough call and quite an upsell, if you can spend the extra money easily, I’d say go for it!
If you don’t plan on getting the Light Moss color, the CF SLX 7 is also a really nice package, slightly worse group set but 700€ more cash in your pockets.
