Hello, my father-in-law recently gave me his old bridgestone altair to fix up. I dont have a lot of experience with the specs.Im having a hard time finding parts that will fit. Not sure if the numbers on the bottom will help. I went to a reputable cycle shop near me and was told I wasn’t really going to be able to find wheels and or brakes I got some wheels from somebody on offer up whice is the right wheel size but the hub spacing is too wide. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly Appreciated!

    Hi.
    That’s a beautiful frame.
I’m sure someone will be along to provide advice soon. If not, there are plenty of vintage bicycle forums online in general.

  2. Love it! These pre Grant Peterson Bridgestones don’t get enough attention.

As for the wheels. It was probably a 10 speed with a 5 speed freewheel. The rear spacing should be 120mm. Original wheel size should be 27×1 1/4.

For the brakes, any modern caliper brake will work. You probably have to find some that are non recessed though. Tektro makes decent brakes.
