As you could imagine, my bike blew over 5 seconds after I snapped this picture and it slipped through my fingers as I scrambled to grab it. Horrified I watched it slowly sink out of sight. I had to wear my cycling shoes to wade in over the breakwater rocks (covered in razor sharp oysters) but I was able to retrieve it as it was not too deep. Washed it throughly when I got home, lubed up and road it 45 miles this morning, seems okay. Still a little water coming out if I tip it upside down ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Evidence of wet bike and redditor. Is this any worse for the bike than a bunch of sweaty rides?

Washing it ASAP after the sink was the right call. It would be better to strip the bike down to the frame and clean everything really well as saltwater could still be in places like the BB or headset which could cause problems down the line when they need replacing or servicing.
Were the fake Internet points worth it?
Your chain is too long and you’ve cranked your b-tension screw wayyy too far in.
Aside from that, the frame is aluminum so it’ll be fine. Your BB, wheel bearings, headset, and cables/housing would be the things I’d be concerned about.
