So why do pedals now have firmware?

I’ll be honest I don’t know but could it have something to do with the battery level? Maybe the right pedal is just a small bit lower than the left and that passed the threshold to be able to update?

I have a pair of Assioma DUO pedals. Last autumn they had a factory recall of just the right pedal. They sent me a new one and disabled the old one (so I didn’t have to send it back). It looks exactly the way your’s does.
