I ride Pirelli Cinturato M for few years now. Great in terrain or asphalt.

If that’s your terrain most tires will make you facepant into that puddle you call road.

  3. Are you planning to purchase tires based on this section? How wide are your rims/what is your wheel size?

There are a bunch of cyclocross tires that are mud specific or at least mud tested. There are a new mountain bike tires for wetter conditions/mud shedding.

What I’ve read is that wider spaces between knobs are beneficial. And possibly having wider tires would help you not sink in as far. Last thing is: bring a tool (like a painters spatula) one for mud removal.

  4. I rode WTB Resolutes for Fried Clay this year through about 13 miles of that type of mud + 112 miles of sticky clay gravel. I think they perform reasonably well on tarmac.

  5. narrower is often better for mud – cuts through the surface slop to get to solid ground. if its deep and soft but more solid then a fatter tyre provides flotation.

oh and dont forget mud clearance! thinner tyre might win out just for that reason
