  1. I got a similar vintage 720 for free, which is closer to the right price. The brakes are very likely to be beyond repair: many of these came with a style that uses a plastic bushing that breaks and does not have a viable replacement. I also spent a few bucks to immediately replace the grip shifts.

    Trek bikes with that numbering scheme go up in quality as the tens digit increases. So 730 is better than 720 and 700 used the cheapest steel and components.

    Depends on the condition. I think if it’s a rideable bike and the rubber is fairly new (brake pads and tires) then it’s worth it

    I don’t know where people live where they can get bikes for free/no money.

    If that bike fits you and you don’t mind spending the money to tune it up or do it yourself I’d definitely pay $100 for that.
