These are crust rons ortho bars with Nitto 90-190 4 bolt stem 135mm. Yes, its a 26.0 handlebar with 25.4 stem, I just stretched the steel stem out a bit for a nice tight fit :).

Ron himself said he crams all his 26.0 bars in 25.4 stems, so figured I would do the same. Couldnt find a 135×26.0 1" quill anyways.

Was running a cheap tall 1 bolt stem, and it kept slipping (then I stripped it) so I needed to upgrade to something with more clamping force. Couldnt find much info on this, so thought I would post it here!

This is in my opinion the kind of thing you may practice for your own bikes, but not something to advise others to do *just in case*.

Just cause Ron does stuff doesn’t mean you should. The guy isn’t Sheldon Brown, nor does he pretend to be. I would never run a 26.0 bar in a 25.4 stem…EXCEPT perhaps for the 4 bolt stem you’re using. And even still I’d never set up a friend’s bike like this. Just not worth the risk when there are other options that are the proper fit.

Fucking around with the stem/bar situation is really being risky when the result can be smashing your face directly into metal at +20 MPH.

  2. Nice rig…I can confirm this works quite well. On my bike (2 bolt alu 25.4 stem) feels like the bars will bend before slipping.

I think the saving grace here is Nitto stuff is ridiculously over-engineered/conservatively specced and tested to hell and back. And it’s a 4-bolt steel faceplate stem. I wouldn’t feel great about doing this with almost any other style of stem in any other material by any other manufacturer.
