    I broke a law from 1896 in front of the police run run away according to the red flag act it’s illegal to travel faster than 4 mph on a self-propelled machine so first I needs to find a Time appropriate vehicle and learn how to ride it morning officers in some Victorian era High fashion Neil the penny farthing man taught me the basics of riding his turn of the century vehicle all your turn and I took to it like a duct to water yeah after officially becoming the second best Penny faving Rider alive I went for Speed to see if I could break 4 milph come on Max you can do it 14 an absolutely smash the speed limit so it’s time to hit the streets like the bad boy I am morning’s up thank you and break the law what’s the speed limit around it in front of the police morning officers it seemed like the fact that we were speeding in a self-propelled machine didn’t bother them one bit even at buckingam Palace hello guys in fact they loved my new ride it’s new BMX yeah absolutely so that’s how in the fanciest way possible

      Now the red flag act only stipulated that if you exceeded the speed you would have to have a vehicle or object in the front with red flags to caution nearby pedestrians. So you did violate the rule but didn’t mention the funniest thing about it.

      I’m not a native English speaker, but is that interpretation of the law correct?

      Hah looked it up, at least nowadays it means both human powered and powered. Maybe your interpretation is contemporary with the law.

      The bicycle is NOT a "self-propelled machine." It is propelled by its rider, who pedals, NOT by itself. To be "self-propelled" under the terms of the act, it would have to have a motor, as a motor car or motor bike does.
      However, the Red Flag, (4mph) law is defunct. It was repealed in 1896.

      Note: Presently there are NO official speed limits on push bikes, which means you can pedal faster than the 30mph limit that applies to cars if you want to, and do so with impunity…

      … but be careful! You can still be done for "riding a bicycle furiously."

      As if they're going to know laws going back that far.

      Heaven help you if you try to repeal such a law, all the nitwicks will pop out of the wookwork and shrubbery.

      We have a old law also in france , you cannot name youre pig Napoleon. Somehow , this is still on the text. But i guess as the video show , they dont give a sh# 😂

      It may be illegal to bike at 4 miles per hour, but there's no law against breaching 6.4 kilometres per hour.
      Technically, you did nothing wrong.
