I’ve had a full suspension MTB for years, but with a recent move, I’m finding myself doing a lot more paved riding. It’s for this reason I’m looking at a gravel bike.
I was looking at a Salsa Journeyer Apex 1 700c, but the Canyon Grizl 7 1by is on sale for a slightly cheaper price than the Apex. I’m starting to get information paralysis and happy I’ve narrowed it down to these two. However, I’m nervous about the Canyon and wondering if I’ve missed anything in my research.
What are your thoughts? Go with the Canyon or the Salsa? Are there any issues with the Grizl 7 or Canyon itself?

There are many issues with canyon and shimano. Here is what I’ve seen at the shop. Fragile frames and forks. Unnecessary proprietary headset garbage. Abysmal customer service. Lacking warranty support. And for shimano. Exploding cables in the shifters. Crap squealing brakes. Leaking caliper pistons. Leaking master cylinder seals. Fast clutch wear. Not on this particular crank, but delaminating cranks.
Get the Salsa Journeyer Apex.
Main thing is the proprietary headset bearings and diameter of steerer tube on the canyon. Both are relatively uncommon dimensions, but can be sourced. Just may not be readily available at lbs.
