  1. Bend the two bars that would connect at the far side to instead cross each other in the middle of the rack so they align with the central hole in the fork? I’m all for figuring out how to make what you have work for what you want but keep in mind you will probably weaken the metal and the geometry might not work out perfectly. I think a lot of very slow bending will be needed as well as some spacers lol.

    Most of weight goes to bottom eyelet which you have , the top part you could wrap bar tape around head tube, to prevent scratching rubbing then use heavy duty zip ties, and or more bar tape to secure to headtube to top part of rack
    . Not using the stays they provided at all

    Melt it down and forge a front rack in its place. Alternatively, use it as intended?

    Damn. I thought the /r/xbiking community would be more supportive of jerry-rigging this to work. Anyways, I have some ideas to make it work and will report back when it’s on.

    Look, I’m not even going to tell you to get a front rack. But at least consider finding a rear rack with a bendable “diving board” plate that connects the rack to the hole in the middle of the fork crown (on the rear it would connect to the hole in the brake bridge).

    The rack is too wide for the front, you would have to bend it inwards to get it onto the rack eyelets. If it’s steel that’s doable, aluminium might be weakened. The top stays will probably be too high if you actually set it on the eyelets from what I can see and there’s no way to fit it on the front axle, so…

  7. Buy a front rack is the right answer. Not tryna be a hater.

    If there’s a hole for a front brake, you could, in theory, fashion some bits of metal and bolt everything together… I’ve done some shoddy fixes like this, but those little arms up top that should be screwing onto brazeons will make this more complicated than it needs to be. It would also probably sit higher and forward than you have pictured, to line up the lower holes with the threaded holes in your fork. If you want to mount the lower end to your axle, you’d probably need to make some adapter/bracket thingies down there too, which will make it look and feel even more janky.

    For the time and experimenting and potential headaches and/or shoddy end result (if you have to ask something like this, you probably don’t have the skillset to do it real nicely)…

    It might just be worth it to sell this thing to someone who needs a rear rack, and fund a front rack that’s going to work better, anyway

    Ive rigged several rear racks into front racks, but this one doesnt look like it would work easily.

  9. I’d put something between the rack and frame. Then fuckin send it with a small voile strap.

  10. Gonna be tricky on that fork. Surly makes some forks with mount in a spot that would line up with those top struts but it would require some persuasion since those struts don’t look to be adjustable.

    On that fork, you might be able to use a rubber insulated clamps used for electrical conduit but I’m not sure how you’d line it all up… cheap to experiment with.

    I mean, technically you could get some a new fork with braze ons on the top of the fork crown, some L brackets, and voila. But I’d just buy a front rack lol

    If you have access to a welder I’d cut the bottom attachments and weld flat plates and drill holes to match the front lugs to get it stable there. For the top part same deal but maybe try doing more of a wrap around the stem tube or fork so It can turn with the fork. General idea is there up to you to make it work! Zip ties is also a true Jerry rig solution.

  13. I did this with an old Peugeot rear rack by cutting off the left part with the 2 prong mount and then fabricating a new mount from a 1cm alu bar, bent in a way to attach to the fork on one end and clamped to the rack on the other end 

  14. If you can, use the brake mounts somehow. They are by far the most reliable mounting point on your fork as far as I can see.
    And perhaps find a way to clamp the „pipes“ of the rack directly, I’ve used the racktime mounts you can buy separately for my last build to lock the rack in place. Looks like it can work for you too.

  15. You need to make an adapter to attach the upper part of the rack to the caliper brake mount on the fork. For that you will need lots of screws of different lengths, strips of somewhat thick steel, the capacity to bend them (you can’t do that without a hammer and a vise), optionally a welder and of course creativity.
