Hey everyone,

I'm looking for some advice on a potential bike purchase. I come from a road cycling background so I'm fairly new to mtn bikes. I live in the southwestern US with some popular mountain biking around and I love bikes all around. I don't mind buying the bike I'm looking at for the price listed since I'm just starting out. But want to make sure I'm not getting scammed for the price.

A buddy of mine, who I know fairly well, is selling me his full suspension Trek Remedy 8 with 29-inch tires. He used to work at a bike shop, so he knows how to maintain bikes and claims it’s in good condition.

The issue is I’m not exactly sure of the year – it’s somewhere between 2014 and 2017 (model number WTU073G6278H, but I couldn’t pinpoint the year based on that).

What do you all think? Is $900 a fair price for this bike given the described condition and the unknown exact year? Any tips on confirming the year or additional things I should check before buying?

My max budget is $1000 and I'm looking at doing mostly Enduro type riding.

Thanks in advance for your help!

  1. It’s 10 years old. I would rather buy a new hardtail for about the same price.
