Finally bought myself a TS 2.3 truing stand. When I put this wheel on the stand, I noticed it was bulging out from both sides. (30mm+ with air in tires) At that point I figured I needed to get the tire and rim tape off. There are various failures like that all around the rim.
LBS where I got it, and who has been doing my maintaince on it, said they never seen the rim fail like this before. Since a few of my mechanic friends were puzzled by it I thought I would share.
Quality Wheels branded, DT swiss TK540 rim, deore XT hub, 36 hole for those interested.
What do you think? Some duct tape and super glue and send it or maybe some JB weld? Obviously joking, but I have been riding on this for a while and quite impressed it held up like this. Already got myself new wheels.

Interesting failure for sure. I’d check to make sure you aren’t over inflating your tires. The pressure spec isn’t just for the tire but also the rim. So you need to inflate to whichever pressure is lower looking at both the tire and rim spec. This is especially true when you are riding slick road style tires on wider mountain style rims. The tire may say 70 – 100 psi while the rim can only take 30 – 50 (for example). In general the wider the rim the lower the pressure it will spec.
