2022 model year, but bought it new a couple of months ago (sales are on, I could not help myself). Got it checked out after the first couple of hundred kms. I’ve asked the shop to check the gears, they did that, but still the gear changes were a bit suspect. So I got it checked out in a different place (more closer to me). I think they did a much better job, but they aren’t that familiar with the make and model, so even they were unsure if the mech is okay or bent.
Any giant Giant experts or fellow Defy owners: does this rear mech look okay to you? Big ring in the front, smallest in the back.

Even if the mech is distorted you can fix that by bending the hanger which is more likely the culprit. The top cog in the mech cage should be inline with the rear cassette teeth. Like yours you risk driving the mech into the rear spokes of the wheel in lowest gear.
You can buy a new hanger or a hanger alignment tool, take it to a shop, or if you are feeling brave give it a gentle but firm pull into the right direction by hand gripping the mech body.
If it will not straighten by hand or tool after 3 attempts get a replacement hanger. Aluminum is soft but the more it is deformed the more brittle it becomes.

Is this the one with a flip chip? I have a Revolt and bought 2 new hangers and all look slightly bent. It’s how it is, got a slight S bend to it. If you have trouble shifting maybe check the cables. I found that mine were crisscrossing internally with the front mech cable, causing friction and poor shifting.

It looks bent. I would definitely recommend getting a derailleur aligning tool so you can check and correct it yourself if you’re troubleshooting.
