  1. Check with your city or search for a local bicycle advocacy org to see if they’ll install bike parking.

  2. The only thing that rack is really any good for is keeping the bike somewhat upright.

I wish companies were not so cheapskate.

  3. Thats a shitty rack. In germany we call that “Felgenbrecher” (rim breaker).

Don’t bolt it on yourself, it is a sealed area and if oils and other chemicals get into the ground because of it you are liable. Doesn’t matter if there are already other damages of the surface next to it.

  4. I’d be more inclined to lock up to that than to, say, a chain link fence, purely because it weeds out crimes of opportunity. Most passing thieves wouldn’t assume that it’s unbolted, and since walking off with a bike and rack together is too sus, they’d need a truck or something. Better that than something a guy with some bolt cutters can easily get at.

That said, I wouldn’t lock up here at night or if I’m working here regularly since passing thieves might notice my bike is always locked there at the same time and have plenty of opportunity to nab it whenever they want.

Still better than nothing, though. The cameras would be doing far more for you, though, imo.
