I bought a Canyon Grail in size M, website suggested S/M but I didn’t see the chart until after purchase. 179cm height, 82cm inner leg.

I’m now worried that the size is too big, but not sure whether that’s just me not being used to the riding position. I’ve only ever ridden mountain bikes before, and not often so new to gravel bikes and this kind of riding position.
Getting back pain and feel like I’m stretching out reaching the bars.

Does it look like it’s too big?

Looks fine to me. It’s also worth noting that if you are not used to the riding position of a gravel/road bike, then you’d need time to get used to it and may confuse that with the bike being the wrong size.

    Just my two cents.

  2. I am exactly in the same situation, 183cm/84cm with mtb experience only and I get the same feeling. Indeed it takes time to get used to it. One thing that might help (at least for me did) was to move the saddle a little bit to the front. Guys from the factory assured me that M is the good size so just play with the adjustments, see what works for you. Happy riding, the bike looks amazing!

I mean, it is alright i guess. I went with size S with pretty much the same body specs after testing size S and M. The staff at the shop watched me ride and they said i look better on the Size S. I just feel more comfortable because the new Grail is very stretched and I dont have to tilt my Head that much upwards. Also my hands are in a better position (wrist pain / sleeping hands). It might only be a small difference. I didnt make any adjustments to the size S Grail, the saddle is right at the center position (vertically). The saddle adjustment (horizontically) is also at the center and also only good for getting your knees at the right spot, dont use it for trying to size your bike down. Yes, you look a tiny bit stretched and so did I on the Size M. At the end its a preference thing, though. I think with the Grail you can not change out the handlebar stem to size it a little bit down, so choose wisely. I think you need to change to whole front on the Grail of you experience the negative things I mentioned above (neck, wrist, hands).

  4. I’m right around the same measurements as you. Went with M in both Ultimate and Aeroad. Does take some time to adjust. Can always move the seat forward a tad to see if that feels any better.

    Bike looks great, enjoy sir!

  5. It is not too big, I am 180/83 and Grail M is absolutely perfect. I had similar worries initially, but after bikefitting, its a lovely ride.

leg is not stretched all the way. also need to see saddle height. Otherwise looks ok.

Reach might be a little too much — can be fixed by a different stem length. Also the saddle height could be higher

  8. Those bikes aren’t comfortable. They have an aggressive position: low and long handlebar, like in a Canyon Ultimate or other competition road bikes. Next time, take care of what you are buying. Look at the reach and stack numbers.

And before all, check your wingspan. If it is close to a 1:1 ratio with your height, you need a bike with a higher stack.

  9. I‘m 178cm with 83cm and have an ultimate amd aeroad in size S that fit perfectly.
