  1. A few pertinent details to help answer the basics!

    **Location**
    New Jersey, United States

    **Commute Length**
    2.5 miles each direction

    **Commute Topography**
Just about flat; a couple small inclines heading towards work.
70% residential roads with no shoulder
30% 4-lane state route, center median, ample shoulder
3 traffic light intersections to navigate

    **The Bikes**
99%: 2006 Surly Steamroller, fixed gear, 17/46 gear ratio, front brake
    0.5%: 2007 Giant Reign 0 all-mountain bike (when it’s wicked snowy)
0.5%: 1980s Schwinn World Tour, fixed gear, fully built from garbage parts, frequently cannibalized

    **The Bag**
Always some version of a Freitag messenger.
Was a Top Cat for many years; was gifted a Harper by my now-wife which may very well be my favorite possession overall.

**How long does it take to bike 3,000 days consecutively?**
For me, 11 years and 6 days. Averages about 273 days a year (usually I work six days a week). Last day driving a vehicle to work was 1 August 2012.

Please, feel free to ask away anything you’d like! Bikes, route, gear, crazy weather— I love doing this, love answering questions about cycle commuting, and have no desire to stop any time soon! Thinking it’s time for a nice dram of Scotch on this beautiful day— cheers all!
