i usually ride 50-150 miles/wk. 19, good heart health, pretty average alcohol/tobbacco use. i'm on day 9 of having covid, at this point effectively asymptomatic. went for a quick ride (0.8 miles) to stretch my legs. had to call EMTs as my heart rate quadrupled from a 35 resting to 120 while i was sitting down and resting after. they told me my symptoms were identical to most covid calls they respond to.

Yikes, that’s scary. I had it back in November and was out of the bike commuting game for a month after I was symptom free. Couldn’t do much of anything without being out of breath and tired.

Last round was about a year ago. Have a chronic junk in my throat now. Took little more than a month to ride or walk any distance.

I’ve only had it once (masks are absolute miracles), but that one time was enough to take me off my bike for 2 months.

It wasn’t that I felt out of breath like I do when my asthma plays up – it’s your heart feels like it’s beating out of your chest, and everything gets a bit dark and weird.

That was 7 months ago now – I don’t seem to have any problem now though, other than a complete and total lack of ability to focus on tasks and losing objects, which I am convinced is from the Covid.

  4. I had a pretty bad case last October. Knocked me out for 2 weeks. I never felt bad enough to think I needed a hospital, but I was SICK … just wiped out.

By December my lungs were still very sensitive to any irritation … cold air was painful. Coughing fits from exertion, laughing too hard, talking loudly in a crowded room, etc… were still common.

I had mild asthma before that, but most times it didn’t bother me … generally only felt it after heavy exercise in cool air. I now have to take asthma medication daily.

I’ve lost significant aerobic capacity that I’m still struggling to regain.

I’ve been vaccinated and had a very mild case about 2 years ago with no ill effect from that first case (over it in 3 days). I was just about a couple of weeks from being eligible for a booster when I got sick again this last time.

Covid can definitely fuck you up, I’ll vouch for that!

  5. Take it easy for a while. Long Covid is no joke. I’m recovered but will never be the same.

Overdo it at your own risk. You WILL relapse.
