I was given a 1980s Fuji Allegro, and after putting a couple hundred miles on it I was wondering how much a more modern bike might be comfort/utility wise. I am looking for some good value and I recently saw a post for a Giant Defy 1 listed at $475 that seems to have pretty good components with a 105 group set.
I typically ride around 15-20 miles maximum with a 16 mile roundtrip commute that I do once or twice a week. It’s mostly bike paths and fairly flat.
Would this Giant be a good value/significant upgrade or should I just stick with my Fuji until I can afford to make a bigger leap?
I am very much a beginner still so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Not much to add but I have the same questions! I’m currently riding an 80s Miyata 110 which has been great for the last few years, but as I’m riding more I’m left wondering if I’m missing out.
Depending on how it fits you, that Giant looks like it has the potential to be very comfortable for a road bike. It’s rare to see even an endurance road bike with the bars higher than the saddle.
Somebody else can chime in with whether the price is good or not (will vary by local market). But I would be considering for comfort reasons alone.
