see it’s always one man’s Freedom Fighter or Heroes and other man’s terrorist and here we have a list of people who were terrorists in South Africa during the uh World War 1899 1902 the two Wars there which they had to conduct in order to in order to uh Rob the people of that land now I’m at the Guild Hall in Winchester and as you can see from this this was apparently completed 1875 in May and this Stone was laid but it looks like it was laid at the same time as this Stone on the other side I expect that makes sense but this one says December on the just before Christmas of 1871 so really 1 year and 3 months um to build this impressive structure what impressive structure you might say well as you can see we’re a ways off the street level here I am at the so-called main entrance of the skilled Hall here but actually wait till you see the building itself um this is horses and carriage times 1870 two and this is what they are knocking up in one year humbly I would suggest to you that this would have been the uh third floor or at least the second floor not the ground floor and that this set of stairs is what was built in 1872 perhaps the adjustments to this Frontage in order to create this recess into the building upon which they would then you know join the plinth that was the floor at the level of this level here um you can tell that this level floor here if you go all the way above this window to the next level is quite a Distance by comparison to from here down to this floor level I would say that this floor level has been truncated can’t get into this building today uh we can see some later added added steps STS steps in there so this is a yeah this is the sort of thing that we’re building I mean the shop has used visard information School of Art um but of course it belongs to a university which is part of the uh part of the program but yeah it’s quite an impressive little build for one year in horse and car times let me step back from the building so you can get a better sense of the Guild Hall now does the Guild Hall just end there and then it’s that that um I can assure you that it probably goes back in a square so this would be like a this facade all the way back as a as a 3d square but yeah we’re in Winchester well I’ll take you for a little walk Story Goes some guy called Alfred drove the Danish Invaders from the area in 18 800 something so 12200 years ago and uh Winchester was the larges of the 4i centers now again not sure what to believe or take from some some of some of this stuff but this dude is meant to be that dude and he’s holding a Christian cross in his hand but obviously stylized sword so this is where we’re at who are these Invaders why did we build such palacial poal and Grand structures if we were talking about a thousand years ago that we still I’ll show you the cathedral in a m it’s amazing well this is the rear view pretty impressive hunches this wonderful example of a 1300s construction goes without a Spire there’s a whole story about that excuses why and so on but I’m not sure about that we met a lady the last time we were here we met the lady whose husband was the um the the head guy here what do they call it going to say the bishop of of Winchester and he is buried here um very rare because it’s only a handful as you can see a few handfuls of stones that are given this tiny there’s not a lot of space back here for for that but find the moon I was quick look around for the moon but yeah this is how we’ve been here before and I feel like I said something about the rod and stuff and being the Good Shepherd when I was here the last time obviously this this is pre going to South Africa I think so it belongs on the previous YouTube channel I don’t think it’s on this one we’ll just Meander watch this Grand Gothic structure which has obviously the oddness of creating you know needing to put a little staircase later on that says ad1 1908 zoom in on that there so that’s obviously a later Edition 1908 um did they make that doorway or was that doorway there and but that’ll be the floor level that’ll be the floor level through this building which makes no sense and then this will be what is the Crypt basementy kind thing actually it looks you look along there it looks like the whole building slopes down but I think they’ve just no I don’t want to think about it too much anyway car back flying butresses as they known and missing antiquitech speaking of that Martin Le is going to be talking at this Festival that I’m attending next month I discovered that today oh look what else I’ve discovered look at that in the corner behind there I don’t know if you’ll see it because of the lighting is a big window the size of that but all you can see is just the edge of it that window goes in there so they’ve basically tagged this piece of building on later on and it’s ended up covering up that window cuz no one architect would have oh but they did over different eons and different architecture different styles and so on but no that was never this this was never intended to be a part of the building because you would not put a beautiful window structure in and then simply cover it with with that that makes no sense at all I did get in here before but wonder if I can still it’s meant to be like a I’m not to say freefor all but you know you meant to be able to access these places is that locked don’t know if it’s locked can’t seem to get in but yeah there’s definitely a whole window behind there just take my word for it if you can’t see it I can see it from here so that is later and that looks like a doorway below ground level there doesn’t it that’s a door into a below the ground level structure um yeah do does that mean that Bishops know just like the bloody astronauts know they don’t know the actona of course they know they’re not going into the space well as you can see this imp we came through there this impressive build horse and card people I don’t know I’m going to I’m going to say 14 1500s but it could actually have segments of it even older than that according to the narrative although like that Guild Hall was 187 what are you looking at the door well the windows in the door oh the windows in that house [Music] there below the ground well they did that on purpose did that on purpose to prevent flyers from getting to the meat spoke to a not getting you to take a needle see that’s doesn’t look like doorways to me it looks like Windows that were altered to make a doorway it’s not that grand given how big the building is right like this one as well same as that window I just saw bricked in it’s really just this this is added on after the fact and you can see how warm this is it just Falls away it’s just um it’s just beautiful does pay to walk around this building that’s not right I’m not pay look very Christian symbology and what are they hiding behind in plain s side but look at the ceiling you know what kind of Builders do ceilings like that today uh the answer is none magnificent we can’t go in [Music] 13 yeah so this floor is added after the fact this they created after the mud flood so the original actually the anyway what struck me about this place actually was turn right what I thought was interesting is the house is obviously going to be impressive but check out this front gate yes as we make our way out you can see some of the house let’s look at this gate it’s a modern gate so we can control the uh construction of horse and cart people versus powerful pneumatic Machinery look at this these gates are an embarrassment an embarrassment let just get through here why well because they’re so cheaply done it’s such a cheap budget gate was such an amazing estate cuz we had to build a new gate in the modern time seen old Gates they’re much much more impressive than this the fitting of the house
