I took the opportunity of the long weekend in Bavaria to ride to Vienna and see a friend – my longest rides so far. I was surprised about my quick recovery, the only thing that’s still hurting is my ass. But I was riding on a cheap non-fitted bike from Decathlon and a super old bib short from my dad, so kinda to be expected. Riding along the Danube was beautiful, I can highly recommend it! What I can’t recommend is riding through Linz, both times I wanted to scream because I was completely lost, the navigation was so bad and in total I probably took about 15 wrong turns. I should’ve just taken the longer way at the Danube.

For both rides I planned just a single stop at Radstation Mitterkirchen to refill my bottles and eat a Leberkässemmel. Other than that I ate a lot of chocolate bars and drank pure sugar (almost one kilo). Per ride I also had one bottle with electrolytes and vitamines (just the cheapest tabs I could find at Aldi). For the next long ride I need to work a bit on that nutrition part because I had stomach ache for the last 40 or so km (of the way back to Passau) and almost exclusively rode the bike free handed which felt a bit better than leaning forward. I really had to fight with myself for 2h and had to give up the average speed of 31km/h.

Unfortunately, I also experienced a little crash that could’ve ended quite bad. I was going uphil (I guess about 3-4% gradient) on a busy road without cycling lane and had to make a left turn. I’ve signaled that I want to go left but the two cars behind me didn’t stop and passed me with high speed. When they were passing me I was basically doing a trackstand. I then again gave a signal but couldn’t hold the balance and fell over to the left. The next car also didn’t regard my signal. It even slid into the grass on the other side to avoid hitting me. None of them stopped to check after me. Fortunately, it only ended with a bloody knee and a shock.
