When I do them, I don’t even really hop. I pull up and when I do the crank flip, the back end of the bike just comes up. It’s not like a bar spin where you hop, level and toss.

Biggest piece of advice I can give for hop cranks is, if you hop weird, or flip the cranks weird, or anything isn’t right, don’t let the rear tire bounce and come back up with you standing directly above it.
There’s a fair chance the seat will bounce right into your nuts. I’ve had a few moments where I’ve just had to lay there. The best thing you can do to avoid that is just commit, don’t hesitate at any moment during the hop or flipping the cranks. Best of luck to ya!

I pull the front up like a normal hop and start pulling the front pedal back while leveling out (pushing bars forward). Try to catch with the front foot first. If you struggle to get any rotation into the cranks rethink you foot position. (Personally just have a problem with catching the pedal again). If you’re unsure wether the cranks will spinn all the way just put your foot to the side.
