Hey all, this is my first go at ultra riding/racing and I’d love to hear your thoughts on my setup.

The route I’m doing is the COLT Loop (Central Ontario Loop Trail) it’s 460km with ~2500m of climbing, mainly rail trail and almost entirely gravel. I have ridden exactly none of this route, but have been warned there are a few sections of loose sand and washboard from atv use, however after watching POV footage from an atv rider on one of these sections, it really doesn’t seem too bad.

This is my current setup.
Large Orbea Terra
Winspace 45 carbon wheels
GRX Di2 group set
Pirelli Cinturato tires 40mm

I’ve made custom bags to hold my food/water for the loop as it is quite remote with fairly few stopping points. Currently I’m running a 3L water bladder in the bag, as well as 2 750ml bottles for a total of 4.5L to limit stops. (My current plan only has 2 refuel spots at 190km and 370km) I’ll be using drink mix in all but one bottle to start to ensure I stay on top of calories as well as a plethora of food options in the top tube bag and my pockets as well.

I have sectioned off the top tube bag with an area for electronics in the front (camera, battery pack, phone, etc.) with the back section for food.

The main frame bag is sectioned off into two sections, the bottom main compartment with the water bladder and a 750ml bottle and the top section reserved for tools, tube, spares, extra clothing, etc.

I’m confident in my Setup and fitness going into this effort, Fully loaded the bike only weighs ~33lbs so it still rides very well even in single track. The goal is under 20 hours and the current FKT stands at just under 27 with a moving time of 23.

All that being said, any tips advice or concerns would be greatly appreciated!

  1. Well that rig is certainly capable of high speed, and you seem confident that you are as well. Best of luck, I hope you do it in 19.
