Pic for attention grabbing.
Thinking bout doing my first gravel race in a month. Any tips to help prepare.
It's only 22miles and I often do 30 mile routes on my weekend trips. Just a bit nervous about it and I'm not sure why. I feel confident about the distance.

If it’s 22 miles, just ride it.
Make sure your bike is mechanically sound and you have the stuff on hand.
I’ve done a few events and it’s common for people’s bikes to fail them
mileage is ok, but also train for the elevation gain over the 22 mile course. pack light with the right amount of electrolyte fluids…
plenty of sleep the night before, eat well the morning of the race,
This should be no problem for you if you’re doing 30 mile rides already. Not sure about your pace but I’d guess you’ll complete it under 2 hours.
Don’t change up a bunch of things – just do what you do on those 30 mile rides. Nutrition, pacing, apparel, etc.
Enjoy it, listen to your body, and take notes of everything you do during the day. Your notes will help you strategize the next race, and the next, etc etc
Eat a healthy meal that morning, fuel up before the ride and make sure you stay hydrated.
Also make sure your mechanicals are good, don’t want anything preventable to stop your race.
Check the torque on your brifters’ handlebar clamps. If you happen to ride on the hoods, especially on downhills or drops where you pick up some real speed, hit the wrong bump and they might shift position on you. I just brought an itty bitty torque wrench and it helped having it. Saved me lol.
Yeah hill climbing practice is important. If they have a pre-ride the day before do it.
Hydrate before the race. Get some glucose snacks, or grab them at the aid stations. Take those short breaks.
Sunglasses!
the most fun wins. eat food. drink water.
Good luck!
What’s that water bottle cage for the Nalgene bottle and where’d you get it?
Take as many energy gels home as you can!
Go that way real real fast. If something gets I. Your way…turn
