Just picked this up for £50 in a local upcycling shop, I’ll mainly be using it to travel between pubs but wondered if anyone can tell me what it is? I like the look of it but it could do with some love
A low-end 1970s bike-boom bike with cottered steel cranks, a rough Simplex drivetrain that needs adjusting and what’s known as ‘turkey wing’ brake extenders. At least you got alloy rims instead of steel and it has newish tires. You need brake pads up front, $10 at a shop but you can get them alot cheaper on eBay.
If I were you, the one change I’d make is losing the drop bars (because really, are you actually racing anywhere?) and swap in some touring bars like this, because you’ll be way more comfortable:
