WTB Riddler 27.5×2.4 (discontinued) – TCS Light set up tubeless with Stan’s
Seems like the outer layer of rubber delaminated from the layers below. Developed a golf ball size balloon which held air but eventually blew out of the sidewall
Ya I’ve had two gravel tires herniate. One surprisingly did t pop after 30 plus miles like that allowing me to get home but it wasn’t that big.

I actually bought a WTB tire that did that when I first installed it. They warrantied it and the replacement did the same thing.

I’ve seen that in tires that were abused with sliding/skidding. It was a bmx tire, so maybe not the same cause. How old and how many miles? It looks pretty worn down on the center.

I see it more often on automotive shop subs, but yeah, it happens to bike tires occasionally. The fabric casing fails and the rubber isn’t strong enough on its own so you get giant blisters.

I have a pic somewhere of a specialized tire that had 5 spots like that. Customer said he rode it to work in the morning and by quitting time it was like that. IIRC specialized had a bad batch or something and comped us to replace.

I have only had it on type of tire but several times with challenge gravel grinders.
