I'll admit, I'm not currently the most die-hard cyclist, I haven't got any particularly lengthy rides under my belt, but I plan to, and am a fan of vintage steel road bikes. I feel they can be quite attractive- and cheap! I've been lurking for a while on here, seeing your awesome photos and fantasizing about biking through the French countryside, or along the Japanese coast, or any number of places I've never been.

And I've been spending an unhealthy amount of time checking Facebook and Craigslist listings. Today, a couple days after my birthday, I opened up Facebook, searched "Univega," and found a beautiful Specialissima for just $80… and 200 miles of driving (fuel cost estimated at $40.5 USD.) I want doing anything with my evening anyways, and knew someone else would snap it up otherwise, so I hoped in the car and took off

This bike seems to be in really great shape, with a bunch of nice top of the line Suntour parts, and is basically a rebranded early 80's Miyata 1000. The only real downside I'm seeing is that it uses 27 inch wheels, doesn't have the later Miyata's triple-butted-splined design, and the "Superbe tech" derailleur, from what I've read, had questionable reliability. Overall I'm thrilled and can't wait to start working on it!

I am curious if anyone has any experience with this rear derailleur, and any tips for adapting the brakes to 700c? Thanks

You will need long arm brakes and might need to modify. I have several 27 to 700 that I had to file the brake pad mount holes down to Increase the reach.
