  1. This was my first gravel race. The only organized races I’ve done besides this are 24hr MTB courses where you’re coming back to base camp every lap, so this felt very different.

I wished I was faster but I was happy with my efficiency. Stopped for ~5 min total to refill water but kept moving otherwise.

The course was … rough. I might say relentless. I’m used to making up some time/speed on descents but these were all rocky, rutted, loose, kitty litter over hardpan, etc.

Bike felt good (mostly stock Kona Libre), drivetrain didn’t complain until the last few miles, hit rims on rocks at least a dozen times but no flats.

The best snack was a ground score Rice Krispie that got all melty and gooey in the sun. Ate a few Gu’s , some tailwind drink mix, and 20mg of 1:1 thc:cbg gummies, plus 7 liters of water.
