I guess you've never heard of JB Weld compound. If you had that, you'd be set to limp in to the nearest welder for a complete repair job.

Tough man… I hafe heard of frames breaking and getting welded… but never seen it…14k + on my ogre….no breaks..
i seen many surly fat bikes with the same crack in the same place. without even having the extra weight that you have on your bike … put your thump out hitch a ride

I have 3 thounsand miles of rough and rocky (NOT bike trails) trail riding now on my Wednesday ebike ride, pushing 1300 watts thru a Rohloff hub, no issues to date.
Man that speaks mounds about Surly bikes! It does not look like you abused it so does their steel quality suck?
That's what put me off from buying a Surly..they rust and eventually just crack by just looking at them. I think being stuck in a remote area in an emergency..i would carry some metal strips/rods pre cut to size and jubilee clips just to brace the crack just to get you somehow mobile to the nearest town to get it welded or replaced with a new frame. Just a thought if you're stuck out in the country side.🤔
