Can this be removed without a special tool? This is on an exercise bike crankshaft, but thought some of you might have encountered this.

I’ve only ever worked with snap rings on cars, but from my experience, snap ring pliers will always be worth the money. Pick up a pair from harbor freight for $5 and it will save you the 40 minutes that it takes to do it without them.

If you try to remove it without snap ring pliers you’re most likely going to bork it up good. Snap ring pliers start at less than $10.

A good set of snap ring pliers will probably cost you about $10 at a local auto parts store.
Get the tool that you need.
