I was listening to some podcasts while I did prep work at my job and this one was about the history of CTE, aka Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy.
I know it from the Arron Hernandez and Chris Benoit true crime cases, but it turns out cyclists can get it too!
Wear your helmets and make sure they're on correctly!

I’ve sustained a fair amount of head banging from working in a warehouse and absolutely zero from bike riding.
This doesn’t make sense. CTE, as I understand it, is a consequence of repeated sub-concussive blows to the head. It doesn’t typically result from single impacts — that results in a more typical TBI.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t take repeated blows to the head on my bike.
If you’re prone to hitting all the jump lines from BMX to Whistler there’s a good chance you’ll have rung your bell a few times. Utility cruising the bike path to work? Your CTE is more likely traceable to your time in AYSO.
Most of what I see about helmets says they’re not effective at preventing concussions. Not sure this fully checks out
They do prevent fractures and traumatic brain injury, so definitely still wear them though.
