  1. How big is that chainring? Look like maybe a 40t.

    I wouldn’t bother going back to 2x. You will need a whole new groupset as the 1x apex has a rear derailleur that does not work with a 2x up front.

    40×11 at 90 rpm is 27 mph…that’s moving pretty good for all but big descents. Bump it to a 44t chainring and you’ll be at 30 mph at 90 rpm. Personally for me, once I get above 30 mph, I’m tucking and coasting. I’ve hit over 50 mph on my diverge with a 44×10 setup.

    Long story short I was able to nab this Specialized Diverge X1 for a bargain some months ago.

    This is my first gravel 1x bike, and after doing over 300mi on it already, I am looking to see what the most practical way to add a 2nd chainring, front derailleur, and similar left hydro brifter.

    Bike is stock, and not looking for immediate upgrade, usually shop secondhand anywho, and have all the tools to do it on my own.
