Swapped out the 3 front gears to convert this 2x group set to a 1x. Nothing changed besides the new chainring on the front which is in the same position as the old middle chainring in the 3 gear setup.
Now when I try to pedal in 1st gear the chain falls off, which is due to a poor chain line I guess.
Why would the chain fall or now and not before if the chain line is the same as the middle chainring from before?
EDIT: Put the chainring on the other side of the crank spider and it solved the issue! Thanks everyone

I’d try moving the chainring to the inside of the tabs. Yours are outside now. Your chainline seems way outboard with how things are currently. If that doesn’t fix it, I would get a bottom bracket with a shorter axle width.

Narrow wide chainring is one of the best parts to keep chain on the ring. It’s probably a combination of things that contribute to chain drop, but narrow wide is a big part of it.

Replace chainring with narrowwide. Strisland makes a 94bcd NW that is quite nice to look at

I’d get either a narrow wide chainring to hold on to the chain better or a chain guide.
