I have a Canyon Grizl 6 in size M. Given I’m 1.83m and 82 inseam I’m rather on the edge to size S. The reach feels a bit too long in longer rides leading to tension in my lower back and elbows. Comparing the reach (J or C) there is not a big difference in size s or m in the grizl. It’s just 10-20 mm so 1-2 cm. However, the stem is also 70mm instead of 80mm. So in total 2-3 cm less reach. Would it be recommended to get a 60/70mm stem to approximately get the reach of a size s?
Thank you in advance for your answers and if yes, do you have any recommendations for a suitable stem? Can I also try changing the angle of my handlebars or the angle of the stem? 🚴🏼😊

  1. cheapest solution is to first try to flip the stem up (if u havent done so) and move the brifters up and closer to u.

if that doesnt work, then a shorter stem could help and a dropbar with shorter reach.

when all these dont work, obviously you are on the wrong size

  2. Given your height I think your bike is the right size, but because your proportions differ from a generic person with the same height (you have shorter legs than average, but longer torso and/or arms) – I believe you need to play around with the contact points:

    1. Stem flip and/or change for a shorter stem

    2. Shorter reach drop bar

    3. In-line seatpost since the one that comes with the bike has a 20mm setback.

EDIT: If you’re thinking about changing the stem, please make sure you’re buying one that fits Canyon’s non-standard steerer tube diameter which is 1 1/4”.
