I got into cycling through commuting around my college campus the past few years. I wanted to have an alternative to my hybrid that I could take down a lot of the gravel roads around the outside of the city. I didn’t have the money to buy a new bike, and I wanted a project to learn about bike repair. I bought this Trek 800 Sport Mountain Track (~1997) frame from our local bike cooperative, also where I used their help and tools to build the project up. I’m very proud of this bike and hope to ride it until the wheels fall off!

Big fan of this build- my first “nice” bike was one of these, gifted by my dad for my 12th birthday. It might be my favorite Trek color scheme.

This was the absolute entry-level for Trek MTBs in 1996, but it was miles better in quality than the Huffy 26er that it replaced. I spent many happy hours riding around the vast suburbs I lived in. It was passed on to my little brother, and he also had some good years on it.
