Hi, so I am set on buying the Canyon Ultimate CF SL 7 but could someone explain to me the difference between these two versions like I'm 5 years old? 100 euro difference, seems to be a single generation difference in drivetrain and brakes? What kind of difference is that gonna make and should I just get the one that is 100 euros more cos it's probably better?

I live in the alps and my rides are usually 1000-2000m elevation gain unless I'm just going for a quick ride for my fitness. The Ultimate seems perfect for my type of riding but just want some quick clarification here.

Thank you!

  1. You know, the website has a comparison tool and then the differences are obvious. 11s vs. 12s …

The more expensive one has the newest generation of 105 groupset. It has 2×12 gears as opposed to 2×11 (12 gears on the rear cassette). The 12 speed provides a lower overall gearing, effectively an extra 1st gear which may be very useful climbing in the Alps.
My choice would be the newer version.

Spend the extra €100, no question. If you’re climbing that much you’ll appreciate the 12-speed cassette. That’s a great bike for that kind of riding too. Enjoy.
