


Doing some deep spring cleaning today & noticed some scuffs on the big ring in my cassette.
The first one, I've circled it in yellow, looks like the chain rubbing very slightly, but frequently. (Might be some similar marking in the next sprocket as well.)
The second one, marked in red, looks more like a one-time event.
I replaced the chain last year after about 3,000 miles. I've put probably another 500 miles on the bike since then. If things seem to be running smoothly on the stand & while riding, is this just normal wear & tear?

Totally normal. The chain has to rub up against the face of the bigger cog in order to shift. All those grooves and patterns on the cog are enhancing the shifting. If you look at an original cassette from when indexed shifting was introduced, there were no such features.
No concern. All your cogs will have similar wear, its just more visible on the black one. Comes with regular shifting.
