I bought this Peugeot bike last summer but have no idea what model it is. Can anyone help me out identifying it? The code on the bottom of the bike is Y601 40770. Thanks for any help I get :)

I’m looking for fun. A thought though, a picture like the first one but of the drive side (the opposite side) might be helpful.

Right now my best guess is it’s a super Vitus.

Hi, my name is Skuggsja and I have forgotten more about old Peugeots than most mortals will ever know. You are right on the money – this bike is a PH11, sometimes called a “Tourmalet” (a name also used on PH10). It’s got the

* Internal brake cable (rare)
* Internally brazed frame with what looks like “Peugeot HLE” tubing sticker
* Simplex SX A32 front derailleur and Simplex S 061 rear derailleur
* Solida 5171 crankset
* CLB brakes (look like GL)

Saddle looks original (and worn), bar tape is obviously replaced with a fugly synthetic cork like most of these bikes get eventually. Condition appears superb, hardly ridden. The model itself is middle of the road, very enjoyable to ride with perfectly serviceable components, if not as quite as light or springy as higher end models.

As for year I would guess 1987. Pre-1987 they did not have those fork stripes, and in 1988 they had rolled out the new paint jobs in most markets. I have never seen a 1987 Tourmalet with a chromed fork, however, but this varied WILDLY from country to country.
