New to MTN biking. The chain surely has seen better days and using the 12inch ruler I’ve confirmed it’s stretched. But looking to see people’s opinion on this cassette? It’s a 9 speed.
Bike is a Scott 940 Aspect. If the cassette is worn and chain is stretched, I’m undecided of what’s my cheapest course of action to make this thing run. I’ve indexed the derailuer, replaced cables and verified hanger alignment but the shifting just isn’t perfect especially in the big cogs.

It’s pretty much impossible to determine if a cassette is worn by just looking at it unless it’s severe. If the chain is stretched and the cassette was used with that chain then it is also probably worn and the best repair option is to replace both together. However, shifting performance doesn’t usually coincide with chain wear significantly.
Does it shift up into the big cogs ok but not back down into the smaller cogs? Opposite? Both ways poor?
