Right at the start of my ride yesterday I went over a rock garden too slowly, got the front wheel stuck and hopped off before going otb but the bike fell over onto the rocks. I’m almost certain that must have been when this happened, I rode for a few hours after that, hit some 2-4ft drops and chunky downhill sections with no issues but I didn’t notice the dent until late last night so I don’t know 100% what caused it.
While I’m aware that officially He’s Dead Jim, since NBD isn’t likely to be financially feasible until next year what I’m wondering is how something like this fails further if I were to keep riding it; Is it likely to fail catastrophically and cause a nasty crash or is it more like something that will gradually get worse until it cracks?

FWIW – I’ve ridden my Specialized enduro ‘14 with a dented chainstay for some 800km by now without any issues. Although I’m a fairly light rider and I don’t go too hard anymore.

If you are the original owner(or know them) giant probably has a crash replacement program you can look into.

Could crumple instantly or slowly. Its aluminum, id call it done. Did similar to my kona unit a few years ago and it hasnt moved since but it is steel and still retains some of its strength after a bend.

I would either go to a bike shop that carries giant or personally reach out to giant to see if they have something in backstock especially if you’re not finding anything online

I absolutely would not ride this. It’s on the back at least so it might not be super bad when it does break but I wouldn’t risk it.
