I built this 90s Hybrid drop bar conversion on a tight budget. It's 3×7, The problem is the front derailleur, it's Shimano road compatible for 3 speeds. But the Suntour largest ring is too far for the new derailleur to engage. My only option is a new BB and a new Shimano road 3x crank? Thoughts?

Your mech is set up way too high should be only a millimetre or two above the largest chainring.
Try lowering it a little first of all
in doing my research, MTN front chainrings have a different Q or offset, and are not compatible with road shifters/ derailleurs.
I am thinking of upgrading to Shimano Tourney Road 3×7 groupset.
…Can you just swap a sealed BB after removing the cup and cone BB? its 68mm I’m pretty sure.
