Bar Hill Fort Tak-ma-doon and Crow road

After the world cycling championships i needed to get out on the bike and this route was perfect for me. The good thing about this was that it was about 50% off road on the forth and Clyde canal past Stockingfield bridge and out towards Kirkintilloch and Twechar. At Twechar I explored Bar Hill roman fort and after that had to navigate a stretch of busy road in Kilsyth to get to the quieter roads like the Tak-Ma-Doon road that takes us over the Kilsyth hills. This is an excellent climb that takes you over to Carron valley reservoir and past the Loup of Fintry waterfall before heading over the Crow road to Lenoxtown where we see the Robert Miller mural and onwards to Milton of Campsie and back to Kirkintilloch using the Strathkelvin railway path that connects to Glasgow via the forth and Clyde canal.

This cycle was my favorite this year so far and was a very enjoyable day out. Was expecting to be out for four and a half hours and that turned out to be seven and a half. My strava didn’t record the ride properly and that was probably down to the battery being very low on my phone for the last hour of my ride.

This cycle was so good for my mental health and was really needed as on the lead up to and during the world championships so much was going on and I was working on a couple of projects with deadlines. This video will also be good to view during the winter as a reminder of being out for hours cycling during the summer months and light nights.

[Music] yeah so it’s Monday the 14th of August day after the world cycling championship’s finished and I feel I feel like I’ve just had a a massive holiday or went to a massive festival and it’s all over it’s quite sad so what I’m going to do is I’m going to go do the best thing for when you’re feeling down and is go for a big cycle see agrees with me so uh well where I’m going go is I’m going to head up for and cl Canal to stock and field Junction then go along the fourth C Canal towards Co safe jump off at K safe and head up towards the and up the tack mun road that should take me over to Ken Valley Reservoir and also the LI fantry exercise so much because with the town with the roads been closed off in the town I just been doing circuits there so that’s been interesting but I’m kner the day but I’m just going to go for it take my time and enjoy the r enjoying the scenery nice relaxing cycle take my time and get away for the city this surface is great what a difference especially on the road bike there’s the bridge looking just as glorious as it always does seen it on the TV yesterday as well just past lamous Stables there so I’m not that far away and I could have probably have got to this point a lot quicker but just going up the road I would have had just such a peaceful cycle on the path this is it only been cycling for half an hour or something I feel much better know that I felt bad before but I know what I mean that’s good to see the good thing about coming along the canal route is the anonine wall runs sort of parallel with it so there always be that’s be SE that’s a recreation of the mstone I I can then we’ve got our canal boat oh so this obviously is where the canal drains out if it’s over flowing you what I’m standing on just now is probably built with the canal what I can see that this is all BT to last there’s a we pipe down at the side there I think this is a a sort of an updated version of the exact same thing we a we monitoring station there that probably pumps of water out don’t know how that works I think the old version would have probably been better my my Gess it Canal stuff so this is Tria I’m coming up to Tria it’s this barill fort I want to see I think that’s right Roman Fort anyway that I’m looking for and so prob here so many times I never thought to go up and investigate the history that’s up here you find it there we are if I can see always boting to of ho for good reason feel this here we go sign because I thought I was going the wrong way thought I passed it was climbing John M sake John no metal detecting good stuff this is probably been rans sacked oh go my chain it’s the second fence I’ve had to lift this here look at this first I think when you see the map be you can see that high Watermark of the the Roman Empire it’s just good to see the B that left behind what is this well seems like a peaceful but Eerie place at the same time that’s Co safe over there I’ve came through that direction along the can now why am I leaving my bike sitting up there just have a be look at this bit and then I’m offski this will be the bath house I think there a better example of this in Muay very sophisticated that’s cool fness PR fun says hot room but say colder room tepid warm room P passage hot dry room lus some easy for this to get wrecked probably just in the right place cold room frer darium changing room and what’s here bike’s out of sight let’s get back up to it just spoted this on um Google Maps this morning and thought I would have a we I come by this way was planning a cycle anyway so why not come up and visit this still that much at my way hopefully a Roman ghost has he stole my break still there I love the silence we’ll get a quick f for the place with the Drone and then go on my way feels [Music] Fair [Music] [Music] mushrooms no no no no no cycle this me bit too bumpy and just if anybody’s lost a looks like a jacket it’s still here somebody’s done the decent thing and tied it to the fence it’s my color but it’s not my size that was great fun really enjoy exploring ancient history done so much yet this year in GL and in Scotland so glad I put new breake blocks on this bike’s been F that was smashing so let’s get back on track a statue any sh you coming up to the quar safe just built cracking sort of Adventure Playground there here but I’m going to not point to the road here and get myself fral safe want to attack me Road see that and then that take me out the house Caren Valley there it’s all right I know I know don’t worry about it oh my brakes are working no I’ll be about to go and I’ll be after me in Road it’s a it’s an all right area think I’d stay here the best way a good thing about being up here as you can crank views I can see the Queens very Crossing Arrow seat Edinburgh can see the pentlands we in a distance there can see tento one of my favorites hey what a place what a view another ho there other ho that should feature in the tour of Britain it’s this one this is an absolute belter I can see the river forth now there’s a finish lane my yeah beat [Music] [Applause] it’s good so I got my best time which is 2 minutes ODS better than my previous best although I look absolutely bur struggling to breathe that did feel really good doing that um and I’m going to come back with this way a few times but the main reason I’ve came this way is because car Valley reservoirs just the other side here and then if we go towards fenry get Li fantry and you go back here the Crow Road that’ll be um sort of recreating the route that the um the world championships was on can’t even talk anyway that’s that’s about as much as I’m going to bust myself now I’m just going to enjoy probably got all sorts of stuff cling in my face enjoy the rest of the cycle for what it is hi now I’m at this we got withs are facing the WR way uh that one’s right I love this sign that’s up there been BR hell that ancient even GL it’s crazy to think just a week ago all these top cyclists were coming through here these roads a scenery let’s check this out Caren Valley Reservoir pretty sure there’s bike trails here as well not I’m going to go on with [Music] this [Music] he [Music] a [Music] so this beautiful passing space passing place just next to your Carden Valley Reservoir is where the protesters glowed themselves to the ground you can see you can actually see there’s a hand print there hand print there that is there’s a handprint there as well pretty sure they were protesting the fact that the British team are sponsored by Shell Oil so I’m guessing it’s just stop oil that did the protest I wonder how to go to off the road never no I was flying the Drone there the controller’s on sets with my handle bars and I hadn’t tightened the controller into this bit here so what happened I’m cycling along the controller falls off with my phone attached to it I took the quad lock thing off the back of my phone that would have protected it so got a we crack it’s actually worked out little too bad a we cracking across the to there still works scen is phenomenal superb smashing fantastic F dabby doy Pedal Power back on De to what difference [Music] fantastic [Music] [Music] [Music] oh [Music] so that was Lipa entry and lock Walton now I’m going to head down that way towards fintry and then up the Crow Road up and over the Crow Road should they [Music] say so brings me down to this Junction F trees a mile along to the right Glasgow and Crow Road is back along to the left I’m going to go back into B it’s good to see the warning still there for the road race bit of memorabilia hang out see if there’s paint on the road lots of gels at the side but they could have been dumped there any time you chance to see that in the Pelon team GB up up up up Matthew V po I was think I was expecting like walks of art Bo standing go go go you also see where the spectators have been standing all the grass is flat Hammer Time all the grass is flattened not so much here but back in a bit B so I’ve just stopped for a we second halfway up CW Road just to admire the surroundings it’s absolutely stunning check that out I suppose when the guys were here and the girls were here for the World Championships you didn’t really get much chance to have a look about it just battling to get to to this H I can take my D and the great thing for cyclists and residents um infantry and all the surrounding Villages is the roads have been done up which was desperately needed right head my way to the top speak about the more then so that’s me eventually got to the top of C road then I’m just going to roll into Mel a camp l town and then on the straf Kelvin Railway Lane stf Kelvin Old Railway Lane which is a cycop path but back to the canal then for the canal back to Glasgow there’s a lot of mes about [Music] here [Music] a [Music] w [Music] o hey that’s a good thing I can come off the road and go into this shared juice path and this is an absolute treat all been resurfaced really good to be on having a great day so um this is definitely one of my favorite bits Cy train station platform still here that’s new oh I’ve never noticed it before I had hardly ate anything today do double Feast when I get in which is great and I don’t even know how many miles I’ve done probably about 40 or something it’s the H that have been the color hi so I’m just hot footing at home because I’ve not got um much charge my battery was it to 5% say and my battery in my phone’s at 5% so it’s got get up a road it’s something to eat I’m well aware of how stunning The Canal looks as well so I’m just taking that in maybe half the road as much as possible I saw cycled up the canal headed on the direction a f cook stopped off at a roing fort enjoyed that then the phical safe been up to tack Me Down Road bust myself on that the other side car and Valley Reservoir having a look at the handprints for the protesters from the World Championships frry then the little of frry waterfall feel like that and uh what else and then after that back over the Crow Road only the stra Kelvin real Wheeling I think that’s when it’s called that took me back at CK and on the canal back to glasgo yeah for l [Music] sorry thank you yeah yeah [Music] h [Music]
