Hi, I recently build a new bike equipped with XT M8110 brakes using L05 RF pads. The rotors are XT M8000 as well.

Everything is brand new. I managed to bed in the rear brake pads(even without thinking about it) but the front brake is lacking power, end up being noisy when about to come to a stop, and every time I remove to pads I have to sand them down because they appear to be glazed.

There is no oil leak on the rotor and I already tried:

  • changing the pads
  • cleaning the rotor
  • trying to bed in the pads following the recommandations by riding to 15km/h and progressively using the brake without stopping the bike, then trying by riding to 30km/h etc using only one brake

What I can try? Maybe the rotor is glazed(see pic above I already tried to sand down the rotor as well).

Thank you for reading 🙏😁

That one bad looks awfully contaminated. Clean everything thoroughly with denatured alcohol in a spray bottle and wipe with a clean paper towel. Find what’s dirty. I’d also clean the pistons, too. I’d sand those pads again and make the black contamination go away completely. After sanding, I pour denatured alcohol over the pad to help get anything liquid off.

Then, clean the rotor thoroughly with your spray bottle of denatured alcohol. Use a clean paper towel each time so you’re not cross-contaminating.

Check your pistons for leaking and un-evenness when pumping the lever. It’s not uncommon for the pistons to be dry and uneven when new.
