Curious that Amol should throw in casually, by way of a correction, that Descartes died in 1650 (5m29s- https://youtu.be/iA65gSb-v6I?si=H6X9BUKu4bA1Ac7G) given that, when he started on UC, he appeared to have no knowledge of French, let alone French philosophers. I wonder if he is experimenting with the technique that Bamber developed for apparently knowing all the answers (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vca5U65VwOM)? If so, the difference is that (1) Bamber was brilliant at it, and (2) he finally let us into the secret, thereby queering the pitch.
Best match of the series in my view. Well done everyone ( including Amol).
This Izzatdust guy might have eaten a lot of books. 😅 But well.. Imperial Lee and Jones had done the same too. Looking forward to final.
Grady's gurning when the subjects of one or two bonuses were announced reminded me of my pub quiz years. Sorry to lose Manchester.
Super excited for the finals!
Izzatdust vs Lee
Hall vs Jones
I think might go down to who is quickest on the buzzer!
dont really see the captains contributing on Imperial and UCL teams – starting to think its better that the weakest link is made captain so it frees up the stronger members to think more freely
I've been watching UC since the early sixties, and I can not recall any season when the two final teams were captained by women. Can anyone?
Izzatdust is incredible, good luck in the final. 🎉
kullmann is always so cool and casual when he answers (complimentary)

I have been hoping for an Imperial vs. UCL final for some time, as I believe that they are demonstrably the best two teams in the series. I got anxious for UCL around 18:00, when Izzatdust inadvertently handed Manchester 'Emperor of Mexico' on a plate, and then Grady got all 3 Beatles questions right. I got even more anxious when the next two starter questions went wrong for UCL: at 19:04 (refer to Finlay's own comments above) and 20:21. At this point, Manchester had managed to narrow the gap to 5 points. I breathed a large sigh of relief when UCL got the starters towards the end of the match. I have loved Manchester throughout the series, but I think we have the best two teams in the final. I don't think anybody's stopping Lee and Jones. But you never know.
to Manchester Grady: you were my favourite this year. loved your knowledge and the way you delivered your answers
Glad my university made it to the semis this year, Izzatdust was too good unfortunately we cannoh compete
Great teams with stunning answers that they seem to drag out of another universe.
I been watching UC since Bamber Gasgoine, and it was SO boring having only Oxbridge dominating.
Very limited.
Now, teams from the length and breadth of UK are punching their way through the status quo.
Brilliant teams.
Outstanding answers.
Wonderful TV viewing.
Rather getting to like host Rajan too, in his new role.
Bravo to all!
Good luck finalists.
Manchester has been such a nice team to watch! Loved them for their humour and overall fun vibe, "make a french noise", nominating Ilya when there's no answer and so on.
Happy to see the handsomest boy of this season in the finale though.
manchester were such good sports! love how lighthearted they can get with discussions and it really does help ease them more for the stressful half hour. was rooting for them juuuust a little bit more, but i think i'm excited to see how izzatdust's gonna fare in the finals. excited for next week!
Izzatdust on point as per!
Ali Izzatdust is the new UC GOAT. I mean whatta god and I love how Grady nailed all the Beatles questions.
Hugely entertaining brains. Thank you all.
Izzatdust is a beast.
Best thing about University Challenge is there are large parts I don't even know what they're talking about, and I feel dumb as hell. Until I get a round I know something, like Italian film directors and 90s African footballers….then I feel like a genius.
Yes please Tayana, hit me up.
Tucson is 120 miles southEAST of Phoenix; not SW.
This is at least the second time that Morisot has been misspelled Morrisseau in the subtitles!
