When Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited Indonesia for the first time in June 2022, the country’s president Joko Widodo took the Australian leader for a special ride on bicycles made of bamboo. Built by a team of 15 in Indonesia’s Central Java, it took up to a week to finish one of the green two-wheelers at a cost of about US$1,000. The designer behind the bamboo bicycle said his craft is a way of using an abundant resource in his hometown that also creates jobs for the local people.

  3. What is the website address for these bamboo bikes I want to buy one. Can they ship it to Florida USA ? Can they install electric motor on bamboo bike ?

  4. A lot of countries leaders said " we will change to green , more eco-friendly, no pollution" but mostly they were just saying. They didn't work their talks. But Indonesia's President is different. He has an amazing vision, and he's tried to do it.

  5. Bamboo symbolizes Indonesian politics: it is flexible yet strong. The plant itself looks beautiful although it is humble (bamboo is a kin of grass). Occasionally you may find rats and snakes (literally) around its base but its parts are very useful for human and animals.

  6. It's nice when ridden on nice closed park. Use that for real transportation in Indonesia and getting black smocked by overloaded truck that struggling to climb the road and aggressive motorcyclist, minibus, and regular bus forcing you to keep your hand close to the brake

  7. why its expensive? its the knowledge HOW to make one. the resource is easy to get. like i said it is the knowledge that expensive. but i hope its not normalized just because you have the knowledge. if the market is foreign countries then ok. but give locals some cheaper options would be great.

  8. It won't revolutionize anything, it's just deluxe stuff for the rich, and probably won't be made dor the mass due to its complexity, the president himself won't suddenly industrialize it I believe …
