After a few days of rest and the (almost) full recovery of my damaged eye I set off on the first day of the second part of my Devon trip.
Starting in Braunton on the north Devon coast I followed the Tarka Trail (aka Eurovelo1) along the coast and then inland.
An easy day of traffic free trail, quiet tarmac and decent weather to ease the legs back in after a break.

hi so end of my last video I mentioned that I had a bit of a dodgy eye after bending over to fill my water bottle and poking a bit of grass in it that turned out to be quite a lot less Pleasant than it sounds it doesn’t sound that Pleasant I managed to finish that day’s ride unfortunately it was the last day I ended up at woodi and roof’s house in Bron which is where I am now spent a sleepless night in agony basically and the next morning had to go to A&E and have various weird chemicals dripped in my eyes I then spent the next best part two days full of Hardcore painkillers unable to open my eyes um poked a massive hole in my Coria apparently fantastic so that was nice um fortunately it healed up really quickly and now less than a week later I am not fully back to health still a bit itchy and bloodshot but ready to set off on the second and final leg of this journey from brunon down to Plymouth via my aunt’s house on dartmore um Woody is going to cycle with me for the first kilometers as we Traverse the TKA trail from brunon to bford come with me [Music] m [Music] so I’ve just stopped on the outskirts of bidford have a snack enjoy the view enjoy the sunshine it’s been a really lovely morning so far actually a few spots of rain little bit of wind but on the whole very very nice cycling weather lovely easy Trail all flat Old Railway T Trail into ball and then back down following the estery very nice indeed Woody rode with me as far as Ino and then headed back home and I’m alone on the road again Riding Solo the way it has always been and the way it always shall be heading to the next Village to fight evil right wrongs all that sort of stuff H maybe tomorrow I’ll want to settle down but till tomorrow I just keep moving on I think actually for most of the day I’m following ev1 eurell one which I didn’t know until just now so I can’t even tell you where that starts and ends but it’s one of the Euro routs so maybe of interest to some any who can’t stand here gas bagging all day got miles to make and uh trails to follow that way into bitteroot [Music] [Music] well taka Trail is pretty nice I’ve done 45 kilomet this morning and other than a few Crossings my tires haven’t touched a traffic road so far it’s been beautiful if anyone doing or looking at either V1 route three the TKA Trail brunon to wherever I am now yeah it’s really nice swooping accessible few cafes and pubs along the way nice day ride take the kids that kind of thing very easy and friendly um it’s about to change a little bit now uh the Old Railway conversion does carry on down to me um but my route ev1 all that joins tarmac again now hopefully just fairly Quiet Little Country Roads as we start kind of climbing a little bit I guess I don’t know dmore is somewhere ahead way off yet but we’re getting into that part of the world maybe I don’t know I’m a child of the digital age I never know where I am I’m just following a line on a map I’m no Adventurer anyway just stopped for yet another handful of dates and to say hello hello we’re going that way [Music] [Music] w w [Music] [Applause] [Music] here we are look another day another wild Camp beneath the trees it’s not the perfect Camp spot there’s a main road not that far up that way and a couple foot path not far down that way but it will suffice one cannot end every day in a beautiful Wilderness Wonderland with a fantastic view across a fi much as one would like to um been a good day today nice riding taker Trail was a lot of fun uh lovely swoopy swoopy very friendly easy cruisy cruisy um and then onto some tarmac but very quiet up and down down little Villages Farms Rolling Hills that kind of stuff not like mind-bendingly exciting but very pretty I think I did 65 70 km so I’m happy with that tomorrow is going to be a shorter day um I think only maybe 30 km down to my aunt’s place on the edge of Dart Moore and then the day after that the final descent to Plymouth to catch a train back to reading I’ve very much enjoyed this little period of traveling it’s um it’s probably my preferred way to spend my life bike a little visit some friends bike a little visit some friends bike a little it’s yeah can’t beat it can’t beat it I hope um you’re enjoying riding along with me um if you are and you’d like to support the channel That would be amazing cuz this one is turned out to be more expensive than expected um I’ve definitely did a new drivetrain and now I’ve broken my glasses as well so I’m going to need to get some new glasses when I get back so uh yeah like And subscribe leave a comment share the videos uh hit the thanks button check out my cofi page check out my Etsy store if you’d like to buy some wooden bits and Bobs made by me um my monthly Kofi porters the cream of the crop the the nuts of the pine cones the the beautiful Moss that covers the Woody pith of reality and struggling for um metaphors and alleries ah anyway thank you very very much you are Splendid Splendid human beings one and all and um I hope that my rambling content and lengthy outros continue to entertain and to inspire such vast clouds of generosity don’t know what I’m saying now just words it’s not even words it’s just noises just Dar noises um yeah that’s that I think I think that’s that brunon to this little patch of forest somewhere near dmore what more can one say really um see you all on the next one bye now

Glad the eye mended so quickly. See you on Tuesday 🙃
Always a great watch! I think 'swoopy swoopy friendly cruisy cruisy' needs to be a setting on the Komoot planner! 🙂 Happy cycling!
I’d like to ride the Devon coast to coast; Ilfracome to Plymouth which takes in the Tarka trail. Maybe you’ll do it before I do and get to see the route on video! 👍
Settled down once, but never again. I just want to ride my bike and be free lol
i'm not an adventurer – i'm just following a line on a map ! Mwaahaaha.😄 man you so inspire us all . keep rollin' dude
I'm glad your eye is healing, of course that can be attributed to Chocolate covered Caramel bars which are renowned for their healing powers. 😉 😉…Oooh! sorry.
Love the 'Littlest Hobo' reference, I doth my cap to you sir!!
We did the Tarka Trail about 30 years ago and hired a kids buggy for the back of the bike, the buggy didn’t fit through the gates!!! We had to lift it over every gate, good memories 🤣 thanks for another inspiring video 👍
I hope your eye recovers quickly , I always wear photochromic glasses after nearly being blinded by a fly .
Between 2004 and 2009 I made numerous business trips from Canada to the UK. On one of those trips I found myself in Barnstaple with a day off so I rented a bicycle and went for a ride on the Tarka Trail. It was the best day I had in the UK and I’ve always wished I could have seen more of the UK by bike. It was so cool seeing you cycle that trail and it brought back a lot of memories for me. Really enjoy your channel, keep up the good work.
Another great watch Jethro thanks for bringing us along👍
Poor Jethro! Don't stare at grass with remaining eye.
Jethro, another great video. Thank you. What is that hat you're wearing? I presume it's crushable, but looks pretty good campside.
like and subscribe people x
Thanks!
Cool video! Do you go deep off the trails into the woods with the bike for wild camping?
Glad to hear you eye is on the mend. I wear prescription glasses but not a bad shout to wear cycling glasses maybe which would protect the eyes more when cycling/eating.
Have you and Louise gone your separate ways?
Glad the eye is ok ! That is one hell of a long garden !
I'm relieved your eye has healed and admire your bravery. The Tarka trail I'm grateful for I didn't know it was there and was literally paralell to that area last July with 21 days of rain bikepacking with a gruelling 30kg of luggage blissfully unaware that this area is non stop hills up and down..pushing the bike for 20 paces before tricep cramps and short for breath or else terrorfied of steep descents and being able to stop with mechanical brakes (two sets in 21 days) that this trail is a definate relief to know exists in an otherwise ultra testing terrain more austere than Scotland. Thank you again and as far as I recall isn't Tarka a
Hunnic unique cavalry unit?!
Tarka on Sire!
Stories like that make me glad I wear glasses! I hope all is well now.
