Hey all! I have a somewhat older bike, it's an old skeppshult and I really enjoy it more than any other. Whenever i paddle sometimes the pedals loses it "bite" or the chain "jumps" or "skips" ahead so to speak. There's 3 gears on the bike and the second one is the worst. Anyway, it's manageable but I'd still like it to work better, since it's my favourite to ride.
I took it to a bike shop and when they fixed it up they told me they couldn't do much more than that since the bike, in his words, was ancient.
So my question is, can a bike really be too old to find spare parts or get fixed up, and am I doomed to ride it until its last breath, or was he just beint lazy?
I'll send a pic of the gear on the rear wheel if it helps!

Yo, you just need a new transmission. Try looking for a three speed shimano nexus and a place that will respke your wheel with a new hub. It will be hella expensive but there is nothing too unrepairable about this.
You can take it in for a second opinion at a shop that has experience with these things.
Or look up the part and find some tutorial to adjust it online.
There can be 2 problems. The first one is that the cable got longer by usage that caused the gears to be misaligned. Second, if this have been the case for a long period of time it could have caused internal damage.
To my know how you set it in the gear with the lowest tension and release the cable so the chain goes in the axle as far as it could go. To do so, you find a metal pin on the black plastic adapter where the cable meets the chain that goes into the axle.
You keep just bare minimal tension so shifting to 2nd pulls the chain out a bit. Then try if it actually shifted. If it did try the last gear with the most cable tension. If it didn’t shift to 2nd you increase the tension a few clicks until it shifts.
