Since getting a new ICT in Jan, I've been accumulating sites that sell 29" wheels for fat bikes. I'd like a wheelset for commuting – will likely add a rack or two and fenders – and for the occasional mixed gravel and single track ride. Here's what I found so far:

    https://fatbike.com/products/velocity-dually-wheelset-27-5-29

    https://corvuscycles.com/product/29-wheelset-alaska-sl-hubs/

Admittedly, I don't know much about wheels but I'm learning. I think ideally they'd have rims which could support regular size mtb tires (like 2.4) and slightly larger ones approaching 29+. I was these thinking extraterrestrial 29 x 2.5 to start.

I'd also like to get a cassette and rotors. I assume this is all I need to do a quick switcheroo during the winter months when I'm fatting and commuting?

    I hope to spend 700-900.

Has anyone used any of these sites before? Or have a suggestion? I also checked with an LBS who said they could probably do it but haven't done fat 29 wheels before. They didn't sound confident.

    1. I’d go with the Corvus wheels. Solid hubs and a strong rim. Stick with 3 inch tires as going too narrow will drop the BB too much. Bontrager XR2 is a good option.

    2. I have a pair of ICANs, no issue with them. But I also tend to ride road or gravel so haven’t put much distance on them.
